Photography & video

Stock photos look like stock photos.

Your space, your team, and your finished work, shot in person and prepared for the web.

Why it matters

A visitor can tell within a second whether the photo on your homepage is your own work or a stock library's, and the moment they can tell, everything else on the page gets read more sceptically.

Shooting in person fixes that and solves a second problem at the same time. Photos taken for a specific site get cropped, sequenced and compressed for the exact places they will sit, so the page stays fast.

Video

A few seconds of motion in the hero, at the weight of a photograph.

Five seconds, silent, looping, and about 200KB by the time it is cut and compressed. It starts on its own, it does not delay anything else on the page, and the still underneath paints first so nothing ever shows a black rectangle.

Shot on location the same day as the photography, so the clip and the stills are the same place in the same light.

How it's shot

Photographed for the places the photos sit.

A shoot done for a specific site knows where the headline lands, which crop each slot needs, and which frame has to survive being a hero at full width.

Real work

Photographs of your own work.

Stock is somebody else's shop and somebody else's crew, and a visitor can tell within a second. The moment they can, everything on the page reads more sceptically.

What a shoot covers

What gets shot, and how it gets used.

Shot on location

Your premises, your team, your finished jobs. Scheduled around you, and around the light.

Video where it earns its place

A short walkthrough or a clip of the work happening. Kept brief, because a long video on a homepage gets skipped.

Prepared for the web

Cropped for every spot they appear, sized for phones, and compressed so they load in under a second.

Before and after

For trades and anything visual, the most persuasive thing on the site. Shot as a matched pair from the same angle.

The originals are yours

Full-resolution files handed over, so they can go on social, on print, and anywhere else.

Shot for the layout

Composed knowing where the text sits, so nothing important ends up behind a headline.

FAQ

Photography questions.

Do I have to use my own photos?

No, but the site is measurably better when you do. Where there are no photos yet, the build uses a labelled slot showing exactly what belongs there, so the page reads as a plan instead of looking unfinished.

What if I already have photos?

Send them. Plenty of businesses have good photography sitting in a phone or on a hard drive that has never been used. If they're usable, a shoot may not be needed at all.

How long does a shoot take?

Usually half a day for a space and a team. Job sites and finished work depend on how many and how far apart they are.

Is photography included in the build?

It's quoted with the build rather than separately, because what gets shot depends on what the pages need. Some builds need a full day and some need four photos.

Let's talk about a shoot.

Tell me what needs photographing: the space, the team, the finished work. I'll come back with what a shoot would cover and when I could get there.
