What does a store cost?
Quoted per project, and the range is published. What determines the price is the size of the catalogue, whether product photos and descriptions exist yet, and whether anything has to be brought across from a platform you're already on.
How long does a store take to build?
Longer than the two weeks a site takes. The pages around the store move at the usual pace; the store itself depends on how many products there are and how much of the catalogue already exists in a form that can be imported. That gets scoped before the quote, so you get a date rather than a guess.
Which payment processor do you use?
Stripe most often, because it handles cards and payouts cleanly and on a predictable schedule. If you already have a processor you're happy with, that can usually be connected instead.
How many products can it handle?
A few dozen is comfortable on a site-built store, and that covers most of the businesses asking. Past a few hundred SKUs, or once variants and stock across locations get involved, Shopify starts being the cheaper answer even with the monthly fee, and I'll say so.
Do I need Shopify?
Sometimes. Shopify earns its monthly fee once you're moving genuine order volume, carrying inventory across a lot of variants, or handling tax in several places, because it has already solved those problems properly, and building on it is something I take on. Below that threshold, a store built into your own site does the same job with no platform fee and no cut of every sale, and that's usually the better trade for a smaller catalogue.
I want to take bookings, not sell products.
That's online booking, which is a different build: a calendar with real availability, optional deposits, reminders, and a confirmation in your calendar and theirs. Plenty of businesses want both, and both can go on one site.
