Supply and install
Measure, order, fit, and haul the old floor away. One invoice and one crew, and the quote holds for sixty days.

Subfloor and levelling
Self-levelling compound, plywood, and moisture testing on anything going over concrete. Skipping it is why floors bounce.

Stairs and nosings
Treads, risers and nosings to match the floor, which is the part that decides whether a job looks finished or nearly finished.

Material only
Trade pricing if you're fitting it yourself or your contractor is. We'll still do the take-off from your measurements.

Commercial
Offices, clinics and retail, fitted overnight or across a weekend so nobody loses a trading day.

Repairs and refinishing
Board replacement, sanding and refinishing on solid hardwood, which is often a third the price of replacing it.

Samples
Pick three from the range and we post them free. Look at them in your own light for a few days, because showroom light lies.

The measure
We measure the rooms, check the subfloor and the moisture, and price it properly. It's free and it takes about half an hour.
- 03
The quote
One number covering material, underlay, fitting, thresholds and removal. It holds for sixty days and nothing gets added later.
- 04
Installation
Most main floors take two days. Furniture moved, old floor out, new floor down, and everything vacuumed before we leave.

Thornbury has been fitting floors in Durham since 2004, and every range in the showroom is one we install ourselves. If something fits badly or wears badly we stop selling it, which is why the range is four and not forty.
The crew that measures your floor is the crew that fits it. They're on payroll, they've been here an average of nine years, and they know which of these products hates a heated basement.

Questions
What people ask in the showroom.
Is the price really installed?
Yes. Material, underlay, fitting, thresholds and taking the old floor away are all in the per-foot number. The two things quoted separately are stairs and subfloor levelling, because neither can be priced until we've seen what's under there.
How much extra should I order?
Ten per cent on a straight lay and closer to fifteen on herringbone. We work that out at the measure, and we take back full unopened boxes within thirty days.
Can I put hardwood in a basement?
Engineered hardwood can go below grade if the slab is dry and we've tested it, but vinyl plank is the safer answer and it's half the price. We'll say which one your basement wants after the moisture reading.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes, on the main floor, included. Pianos, pool tables, aquariums and anything over 300 pounds need a specialist and we'll tell you before the day.
How long before we can walk on it?
Straight away on click-together vinyl and floating hardwood. Glue-down and tile need overnight, and heated tile wants a week before you turn the heat on.
What about pets?
Vinyl plank is the one that shrugs off claws and accidents. Wire-brushed oak hides scratches far better than a smooth finish, so it's the hardwood we'd point a dog owner at.
